Forty-five Omani companies will be participating in the upcoming 5-day Made in GCC Expo 2014 that is to take place at the Sharjah Expo Centre, UAE, from May 26-30, it was announced by Ahmed bin Sulaiman al Maimani, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, at a specially held press conference here yesterday. Al Maimani outlined Oman’s scheduled participation at the event that will for the first time feature SME’s (small and medium sized enterprises) — Oman will feature 16 SME’s and 6 handicraft stalls amongst the 45 participating companies.
He pointed out that this will be the 15th Made in GCC Expo and that it is held every two years, although the last one was held seven years ago in Kuwait. It is, he continued, an opportunity for participants to promote their products and services, not only within the confines of the GCC, but, thanks to the global attention the event attracts, internationally as well. For the last two days of the Expo, all of the items on display are up for purchase. Nearly all of the country’s economic sectors will be represented with participants including manufacturing firms, service sector establishments, tourism agencies, SME’s and handicrafts.
The Under-Secretary said, they have assigned the Oman International Exhibition Centre to market and promote our participants and that he will be heading the delegation together with the organising committee. He added, the idea of the Expo is to promote GCC products and services so as to attract interest and investment and the introduction of SME’s, as well as handicrafts, is to showcase the development of these two industries, which have government support in terms of financing and training. Besides Oman, other GCC countries expected to participate, include the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.
