Four companies will be investing a combined RM375 million in Kulim High Technology Park (KHTP) here.
They are Laryngeal Mask Company (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Aurelia T Technology Sdn Bhd, Peritone Health Sdn Bhd and Symbiotica Speciality Ingredients Sdn Bhd.
The companies signed a lease agreement with Kulim Technology Park Corp Sdn Bhd (KTPC) yesterday.
They chose to invest in KHTP to help boost the industrialisation process in Kedah, said KTPC president Annuar Mohd Saffar.
State executive councillor Norsabrina Mohd Noor said the RM375 million investment includes upgrading facilities and infrastructures in KHTP, providing job opportunities for locals.
Norsabrina added that their interest stems from six mega projects that have been proposed around Kulim.
"The six projects proposed are Kulim International Airport (KXP), Kedah Aerocity, Sungai Petani-Kedah Inner Expressway (Spike), Kedah Rubber City, Kedah Science and Technology Park and Kedah Medical Science City. based on Mida’s investment this year from January to September, the state attracted a total of RM4.2 billion foreign and RM430 million local investments on 35 approved projects.”
This helps push Kedah’s position in the country’s overall investment list to sixth from seventh position last year, she added.
Annuar said Kedah’s rapid growth in development and transformation had convinced the investors to be a part of its mega projects.
"We will double our efforts to woo both foreign and local investors to the state through aggressive promotional activities with Malaysian Investment Development Authority, Northern Corridor Implementation Authority and InvestKedah,” he said.
Aurelia T director Datuk Mohamed Farouk Che Ibrahim said KHTP is a matured park, thus investing and expanding there would be beneficial for both the rakyat and investors.
"We believe with the proposed new airport coming soon, Kulim will attract more high-tech multinational corporations to invest in KHTP.”
